Kim Roksu has one life motto: “Let’s not get beat up.” A simple philosophy. Avoid conflict. Stay quiet. Keep your head down and survive.
But after dozing off somewhere midway through the novel “Birth of a Hero,” he wakes up as Cale Henituse, one of the minor villains in the novel who gets the beating of a lifetime from the soon-to-be hero Choi Han. The beating that breaks his bones, shatters his pride, and leaves him a broken mess in the gutter.
Only time will tell how much longer he has before that dreadful encounter. Days? Weeks? The timeline is vague, but the outcome is certain. The hero will come, and Cale will be destroyed.
Kim Roksu has no interest in being destroyed. He has no interest in being a villain. He has no interest in fighting the hero or changing the plot or saving the world.
He just wants to enjoy a long and lavish life free of beatings.
So he does what any sensible transmigrator would do. He avoids the hero. He avoids the plot. He avoids anything that might get him involved in the story. He spends money, eats good food, and stays far away from anyone named Choi Han.
But the plot keeps pulling him back. People keep showing up at his door. Villains keep targeting his family. And somehow, despite all his efforts to be useless, Cale Henituse keeps accidentally saving the day.
Can Kim Roksu change the course of this story so he can enjoy a long and lavish life free of the soon-to-be hero?
