I’m a roleplayer. The kind of gamer who builds an entire character around a class and enjoys staying in character from start to finish. Every line of dialogue. Every gesture. Every dramatic pause. If you are too embarrassed to commit to the bit, you are not a real roleplayer.
“Keep talking. I’m starting to wonder just how much of my wrath you can endure.”
So, as usual, when I started a newly released game, I immersed myself in my latest role: a knight with a demon sealed inside his arm. The voice. The posture. The brooding intensity. I was in character before the tutorial even finished.
And I roleplayed to my heart’s content.
“Log out.”
Command unavailable.
“…? Log out.”
Command unavailable.
“…???”
That was the moment I realized one very important fact. I was screwed. No. I was completely fucked.
Now I am stuck inside a game as a character I designed to be dramatic, edgy, and completely insufferable. Everyone around me thinks I am terrifying. They have no idea I am just a gamer who went too deep into his roleplay.
Can a persona-obsessed roleplayer survive a game world when he cannot log out and the character he created is now his only identity?
